Lex's Story
Lex is a member of the Schoolies Youth Reference Group. She joined the committee because she had a few issues when organising her own schoolies holiday (the booking fell through at the last minute) and wanted to help others to be more informed to maximise their schoolies fun! Lex is studying Nutrition and Dietetics at Monash University .
Schoolies in Bali
Although not many schoolies head for Bali to celebrate, I do hope that one day you find the time to go because it is a beautiful island where the locals are friendly and almost everyone just wants to have a good time!
Schoolies is so hyped-up at school, it was basically all we talked about for months! Some friends of mine and I had organised a trip to Merimbula for a week in a house just to party and lay on the beach. But unfortunately this wasn't to be as there were some problems with the house and our booking fell through at the last minute. I was devastated! But what I ended up doing was far better for me.
Just three of my friends and I headed to Bali for two weeks instead. We stayed in Legian at the Bali Padma, and it was absolutely awesome!! In Bali, you can get better accommodation and cheap taxis (in the form of motorbikes) all for a pretty similar price to a Queensland schoolies.
We lived it up in style going out for dinner every night, drinking cocktails and lying by the pool most of the time. We did also manage to sneak in lots of shopping, getting our hair braided, cultural discoveries, white water rafting etc etc.
Although my 'schoolies' experience was not a traditional one, I think my main aims were achieved, to relax, get a tan and have loads of fun! I hope all of you have a happy and safe schoolies!
